June 24, 1961 – August 16, 2025

Mr. Lonnie Ray Sanders, 64, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Buckner passed away on the evening of Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Unity Point – Methodist West Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Sanders has been living in Des Moines over the past few years. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, uncle, father, grandfather, uncle, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a Christian who dedicated his life to Christ at an early age with the New Hope, Missionary Baptist Church in Buckner, Arkansas. In his younger years he loved to fish, as an adult he was more focused on working as a logger and skidder operator with Ed Martin Logging until he left Arkansas.

He was born to the late Mr. Almond Sanders and the late Mrs. Elnora Reed-Sanders on June 24, 1961, and was one of fourteen siblings born to that union. He was preceded in death by both parents, four sisters, Mrs. Ella Mayweather, Ms. Jessie Sanders, Mrs. Emma Sims, and Ms. Gail Sanders. Three brothers, Mr. Norman Sanders, Mr. Kentis Sanders and Mr. Prentis Sanders.

He was a proud member of the Stamps High School Yellowjacket Class of 1979 where he excelled in football. He was a beloved member of their class and was one of the classmates who loved a good laugh. Upon graduation he left home to join the U. S. Army where he served until January 26, 1985, as a Power generator and wheeled vehicle mechanic. In 1990, he married Ms. Carolyn Young, and to that union three children were born.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mrs. Carolyn Young, four children, Mr. Lonnie Sanders, Jr., Ms. Shantasha Sanders and Ms. Terresha Sanders, all of Stamps, Arkansas and Mr. Devon Sanders of Des Moines, Iowa. Two bonus children he raised as his own, Ms. LaTicia Young and Mr. Cedric Stevens, both of Stamps, Arkansas. Five sisters, Mrs. Edna (Lee D.) Adams, of Buckner, Arkansas, Ms. Donnie Fay Sanders, of Des Moines, Iowa, Ms. Ida Renee Sanders of Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Tavitha (Ben) Wooten of Camden, Arkansas and Mrs. Rhonda (Franklin) Brooks, of Houston, Texas. One brother, Mr. Tim Sanders of Buckner. Eleven grandchildren, Kezaria Robinson, Kenderick Sanderss, Sedricka Stevens, Jaylon Eason, KeAsia Biddle, Chassidy Stevenss, Jayceon Eason, X’Zairriea Sanders, Jordan Smith, Jayla Eason and Journi Smith. His special friend Ms. Brenda Woods of Des Moines, Iowa.

His service will be held on Saturday August 30, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home, 415 East First Street, Stamps, Arkansas under the direction of Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home where Rev. Alvis Hamilton will serve as Officiant and Eulogist. There will be a public viewing on Friday August 29, 2025, at Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home Chapel from 11:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M. with interment immediately following at New Hope Cemetery 303 Nevada 4; Buckner, Arkansas 71827.
