Bernice Sharp Lewis, was born February 17, 1936, in Magnolia, Arkansas to the late Fred Sharp and Earnestine Brooks Sharp. She was one of 13 siblings.

She gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age at Rocky Mt. Baptist Church, her home church. She devoted years of service to the Lord at First Baptist Church Calhoun Heights in positions as Usher, Sunday School Teacher, and Finance Secretary. Her later service to the Lord was as a member of the Mt. Bernice was married twice and with those two unions she leaves to cherish her life three daughters, Calesta D. Smith, Lori A. Lewis Ross and Syctrilas L. Freeman.

Bernice was an avid fisherman, and an integral part of several families lives. She touched so many. She was also a fisher of men spreading the gospel and the Love of God to humanity with dedicated service and biblical training, glorifying God with praise and thanksgiving. That was her mission.

In addition to being a homemaker and mother of three daughters, she worked for various doctors which is where her love for caring for people began. She also worked for Weyerhaeuser in Magnolia until she was no longer able.

In the late hours preceding her official pronouncement of November 13, 2023, at 12:25 a.m., Bernice Lewis breathed her last breath of life as she desired, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her three daughters.

Bernice’s (Momma’s, Deggie’s, BB’s) memories will forever be cherished by her children, Calesta Smith of Gautier, MS, Lori Lewis Ross (John) of Gautier, MS, and Syctrilas Freeman (Earnest) of Portsmouth, VA; three grandchildren, Alejuandros R.
