Anna Washington, 89, of Buckner, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in her residence in Buckner, Arkansas on the evening of March 8, 2026. She was surrounded by family members. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many, including non-blood relatives. She was the last of all her siblings and most importantly, she dedicated her life to Christ at an early age in St. John Baptist Church where she served and was very active until her health declined and she was no longer able to attend. She loved all forms of athletics and was seen frequently at almost all sporting activities, even after her children and grandchildren had left departed the district after graduation.
She was born to the late Mr. Samuel Johnny Lee Washington and the late Mrs. Annie Pinkie Davis Washington, on November 26, 1936, in Buckner, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by both parents, her siblings, Mrs. Christine Johnson, Mrs. Gurtherlene Madison, Ms. Leola Washington, Mr. Booker T. Washington, Mr. Thurman Washington, and Mr. Willie Washington. One grandson. Ezron Washington. Mrs. Washington had a heart for service, which was shown through her choice of professions. She was instrumental in the startup of the Headstart Program which was in Stamps, Arkansas on the Old Ellis School property where she went on to serve this community and its children for more than thirty years. She was as well a school trained Licensed Vocational Nurse who graduated from Red River Technical School in Hope, Arkansas.
She is survived by her children, Johnny (Rose) Brown, Kirk Washington, Dwayne Morgan, Travianell Morgan, Myron Morgan, all of Buckner, Arkansas and Gwen (Tellas) Washington-Barber, of Thomasville, Georgia. Ten grandchildren, LaKethia, Shuntina, Miesha, Lance, Vance, Devin, Neca, Jazmyn, DaJuan, and Shamic, a host of great and great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special niece, Josephine Glenn, who she helped to raise and who regarded her as a mother.
Her service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home Chapel, 415 East First St. Stamps, Arkansas 71860 at 10:00 A.M. where, Pastor C. Edward Cooper will serve as Officiant and Eulogist, under the direction of Hamilton-Davis Funeral. Her visitation is on Friday, March 20, 2026, in the Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home Chapel, from 11:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M.
Masks are optional but highly recommended with the recent rise of COVID cases and influenza breakouts.
